A's claim White Sox's Thompson

CHICAGO -- Right-handed pitcher Taylor Thompson, who made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox this past season, was claimed off waivers Tuesday by the Oakland Athletics.

Thompson pitched in five games out of the bullpen with the White Sox in 2014, making his debut on July 20 with a scoreless 1 2/3 innings against the Houston Astros. His final outing with the club came Aug. 3 when he gave up three runs in an inning against the Minnesota Twins. He finished his short stint with a 10.13 ERA over 5 1/3 innings.

Thompson was a former 44th-round draft pick by the White Sox in 2009 out of Auburn. He has a 2.55 ERA in 279 minor league innings over six seasons.

With the move, the White Sox’s 40-man roster is at 36.
