Here are a few highlights Wednesday from the second Bears OTA open to the media.
For much of the practice, the defense dominated the offense, especially during a red zone 7-on-7 drill as Danieal Manning and Craig Steltz each had interceptions. Manning and Zack Bowman also broke up passes. Bowman showed excellent instincts batting away a fade pass intended for Devin Hester in the back corner of the end zone.
Tired of being outshined by the defense, tight end Desmond Clark spiked the ball after catching a touchdown inside the twenty.
Devin Aromashodu beat rookie cornerback Joshua Moore with a double move during a 1-on-1 coverage session. Johnny Knox drew the praise of offensive coordinator Mike Martz after running a sharp route in that same drill.
Second-string quarterback Caleb Hanie had a rough afternoon.
Safety Al Afalava channeled his inner Bo Jackson, returning an interception the entire way to the far end zone, a good forty yards past the rest of his teammates.
Newly hired director of personnel Tim Ruskell watched practice from the far sideline.
Coaches from Louisville, Wisconsin and Illinois State were in attendance.
