First period recap: Hawks 0, Kings 0

LOS ANGELES -- The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings are scoreless after the first period at the Staples Center.

The first 20 minutes weren’t filled with a plethora of scoring chances for either team, but both goaltenders made at least a couple of tough saves.

Corey Crawford, playing in his second consecutive game, had his best one on a redirect attempt right in front of him by Anze Kopitar. Later, Crawford made another stop flashing his left pad to thwart the Kings.

On the other end, Jonathan Quick made a point-blank save on Patrick Kane as he tried to roof one to Quick’s glove side. Then, on a mini breakaway by Marian Hossa, Rob Scuderi made a diving poke check from behind, before Hossa could get a shot off.

The Hawks had seven shots on net to the Kings' nine. Los Angeles will open the second period on the power play after Patrick Sharp was called for hooking with .8 seconds left in the period. The Hawks did not score on their one chance with the man advantage.
