Second period wrap: Wild 3, Hawks 2

The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Minnesota Wild 3-2 after the second period at the United Center.

Minnesota tied the game on Jared Spurgeon’s first goal of the season as his point shot got through Corey Crawford, who has given up two weak goals so far. The Wild took the lead on a short 3-on-2 rush which Antti Miettinen finished standing alone at the crease.

The Hawks dominated at times in the first period but could not find that same pace in the second. Niklas Backstrom recovered from a shaky opening 20 minutes to stop all 11 shots he faced in the second.

Patrick Sharp and Troy Brouwer have the Hawks’ goals while Marty Havlat has the other Wild tally, all coming in the first period.
