First-period wrap: Hawks 0, Wild 0

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild are scoreless after the first period at the Xcel Energy Center on Monday night.

It was a fairly even first period with neither team racking up great scoring chances, although the Hawks frequently had the puck on their sticks. The best sequence for either team came from the Wild when they had a close-in opportunity on Corey Crawford, and then a rebound try while he was down, but Crawford made both saves.

The Hawks played more in the Wild’s end than in their own, but couldn’t get one by Niklas Backstrom who made 14 saves in the first. Crawford stopped all eight shots he saw.
