Second-period wrap: Hawks 3, Wild 0

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Chicago Blackhawks led the Minnesota Wild 3-0 after the second period at Xcel Energy Center on Monday night.

In their second game in two nights, the Hawks are playing a near-perfect road game through 40 minutes. They’re not taking many chances and are capitalizing on the ones they’re getting.

All three of their goals came in the middle 20 minutes, led by the Jonathan Toews-Patrick Kane-Patrick Sharp line. First, from behind the Wild net, Toews found Sharp streaking towards the net and fed him the puck for Sharp’s 33rd goal of the season. That line also scored the Hawks’ third goal of the game when Sharp found Kane on the right wing, creating a 2-on-1 chance with Toews. Toews one-timed the pass from Kane to make it 3-0.

In between, the Hawks’ fourth line banged and crashed its way to a Tomas Kopecky rebound goal.

The Hawks have given up just 14 shots on goal and have only taken one penalty, when John Scott was called for instigating after he jumped Brad Staubitz, who hit Brian Campbell on an icing call. Staubitz was called for boarding.
