First period wrap: Blues 1, Hawks 0

The Chicago Blackhawks trail the St. Louis Blues 1-0 after the first period at the United Center.

The Hawks need the win badly but their play on the ice isn’t matching the urgency of the moment. An opening shift turnover by Marian Hossa led to the lone goal of the game while the Hawks squandered a great scoring opportunity on a 5-on-3 power play.

Hossa went through his legs for a pass to Jonathan Toews but the puck was intercepted in the Hawks zone and T.J. Oshie scored on the ensuing play. The game was 17 seconds old.

Later, the Hawks had 1:44 with two Blues’ in the box but only managed a couple of good looks at goalie Ty Conklin. A recent trend of giving up few shots but trailing continued. The Blues only put four on net to the Hawks eight but they lead in the game.
