Second-period wrap: Hawks 3, Coyotes 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 after two periods at Jobing.com arena.

Despite being outshot 27-9, the Coyotes have hung around after 40 minutes largely because of a couple of Blackhawks’ mistakes. Phoenix scored its first goal on a rebound shot by Taylor Pyatt after goalie Corey Crawford gave him the puck in the slot. Niklas Hjalmarsson couldn’t break up the play as the closest defender.

Later, Duncan Keith had a blow-out in the Hawks’ zone. The Coyotes capitalized when Ray Whitney scored.

The Hawks tallied twice in the second period as well. Jonathan Toews knocked back a rebound after Jason LaBarbera gave up a poor rebound. Moments after Keith fell Jamal Mayers tallied his first as a Hawk redirecting a shot from Keith.

The Hawks have dominated the puck possession game hence the advantage in shots on net.
