Second-period wrap: Wings 2, Hawks 1

DETROIT -- The Chicago Blackhawks trail the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 after two periods at Joe Louis Arena.

The Hawks cut their deficit in half when Andrew Shaw was given a gift goal after Wings goalie Jimmy Howard misplayed a puck behind his net allowing Shaw an easy open net tap-in.

That came late in the period and gave the Hawks some energy as they earned their first power play of the afternoon on the next shift when Patrick Kane was hooked but could do nothing with it.

The Wings dominated the first period outshooting the Hawks 21 to 4 while scoring twice.
