First period: Hawks 2, Sabres 1

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 after the first period at the United Center.

Buffalo struck first on a mini-breakaway by Jason Pominville after Brent Seabrook was caught up ice. Marian Hossa dumped a blind pass into the offensive end which was turned quickly into a break for the Sabres. Pominville placed a perfect shot above Corey Crawford’s right shoulder for the score.

The Hawks tied the game on Andrew Shaw’s fifth goal of the season. Just as a power play was ending, Duncan Keith blasted one on net which Shaw put in for the rebound score.

A second power play produced another goal when a Brent Seabrook blast was rebounded by Jonathan Toews for his 25th of the season. Shaw provided a screen on the play.

The Hawks hit two posts in the period and finished with 14 shots to Buffalo’s 10.
