First-period wrap: Hawks 1, Oilers 0

EDMONTON -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the Edmonton Oilers 1-0 after the first period at Rexall Place.

The Hawks got off to a hot start outshooting Edmonton 13-3 early in the contest while getting a Jamal Mayers goal to take the lead. Mayers snapped off a wicked wrist shot as he entered the offensive zone for his fifth goal of the season. But the visitors lost some momentum taking two consecutive penalties but were able to kill them both off.

A late power play for Chicago didn’t produce much but overall the Hawks played a solid first 20 minutes.
