Second-period wrap: Hawks 4, Rangers 1

NEW YORK -- The Chicago Blackhawks lead the New York Rangers 4-1 after two periods at Madison Square Garden.

New York scored the lone goal in the second period when Marc Staal tallied from the point after a good shift by the Rangers. The teams exchanged several power play chances in the middle 20 minutes but neither could earn a special teams goal.

The Hawks had a long 5-on-3 chance after Brandon Dubinsky got called for two penalties on one play but the visitors could do no damage. The Rangers are 0 for 6 on the power play and have just 12 shots through two periods.

The Hawks scored four times in the first period, including on a Jonathan Toews penalty shot just a minute into the game. Nick Leddy, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa have the other scores.
