Crawford named NHL's second star of week

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford was named second star in the NHL for the week ending March 18.

Crawford was 3-0 with a 1.09 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage. His first win came in relief on Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues. He stopped all 18 shots he faced over the final two periods plus overtime. Then he denied three skaters in the shootout to secure a 4-3 comeback win over the best team in the league.

Crawford followed that up with a 4-1 win in Dallas and a 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday in Chicago. He came within 5:50 against the Stars of recording the Hawks' first shutout of the season.

It’s the second time in three weeks a Hawks netminder has been named a star of the week. Ray Emery was honored as third star for the week ending March 4.

Ilya Bryzgalov of Philadelphia was named No. 1 star while Martin Erat of Nashville garnered third star honors.
