Hawks' Handzus in, Shaw out vs. Ducks

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks forward Michal Handzus will return to the lineup to play the Anaheim Ducks on Friday after missing two games, and forward Andrew Shaw will miss a second consecutive game, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

Handzus missed the last two games with an illness. He has one goal and three assists in 13 games this season.

Shaw suffered an upper-body injury when he was checked hard against the boards during the third period of Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars. He did not travel with the team to play the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. He has eight goals and nine assists in 29 games this season.

“Shaw, real close, looking for him playing Sunday,” Quenneville said prior to Friday’s game.

Quenneville also announced goaltender Antti Raanta would start against the Ducks. Raanta is 2-0-0 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .917 save percentage since being recalled last month.

“It’s a good chance for him,” Quenneville said. “He’s played well in the games he’s played. It’s a good opportunity to get a home start as well.”

The Blackhawks are coming off back-to-back regulation losses for the first time this season. They lost 4-3 to the Stars on Tuesday and 4-3 to the Wild on Thursday. Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford allowed eight goals on 41 shots in the two games.
