Nick Leddy, Defenseman

2013-14 cap hit: $2,700,000 | Age: 23 | Season stats: 7 goals, 24 assists, plus-10

Season recap: Leddy was a fixture as the Blackhawks' fifth defenseman again. He played with a number of different sixth defenseman and was able to adapt. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville lost some faith in him again in the playoffs and reduced his minutes at times.

Season highlight: Leddy scored the game-winning goal and had an assist in a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 3.

Season lowlight: Leddy was a healthy scratch against the Minnesota Wild in Game 3 of the second round of the playoffs. He was expected to have a number of family and friends from Minnesota in attendance.

Final grade: C+

Inside the numbers: Leddy had played in a team-high 296 consecutive games before being scratched in the playoffs.

Notes: Leddy led the team's defensemen with four power-play goals.

Quotes: "Keep improving as a player," Leddy said of his goals after the season. "Keep wanting to take more responsibilities. It has flown by. This will be my fifth season already. Keep improving as a player and taking my game to the next level."

What's next: Leddy likely will play a similar role next season. He said he'd like to focus on shooting more next season. If the Blackhawks could get more offense out of him, Quenneville might be willing to overlook his occasional defensive lapses.
