ATLANTA -- Now that Corey Brewer has been bought out by the New York Knicks, plenty have asked recently if Joakim Noah has had discussions about his former teammate at the University of Florida with Bulls management.

When posed that question before Wednesday morning's shootaround, Noah said: "I think that right now, I can't control that. It's not for me to say."

Noah was surprised the Knicks bought out Brewer, who won two national championships with Noah at Florida in 2006 and 2007.

"It's very shocking to me, because I think that Corey's definitely somebody that can bring a lot to this league," Noah said. "Just with his defensive presence, his defensive energy, and I was happy for him to go to New York because I felt like it was a good situation for him, but obviously, they didn't feel the same way.

"I think Corey's going to be somebody who, when he's put in the right situation, is going to really blossom in this league. Obviously, it didn't work out for him in Minnesota, and I'm happy that he's going to get a fresh start somewhere else."

Brewer was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the seventh selection of the 2007 NBA draft, and Noah went at No. 9 to the Bulls.
