Report: Irish land QB Golson

South Carolina is exporting one of its brightest prep talents to South Bend, Ind. According to a Myrtle Beach Sun report, quarterback Everett Golson has verbally committed to play for the Fighting Irish.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Golson originally give his oral pledge to North Carolina as a junior, but joined coach Brian Kelly's swelling class of 2011 as the 18th recruit on Wednesday. Golson made an official visit to South Bend on Nov. 13 for Notre Dame's big victory over Utah, ranked No. 15 in the country at the time.

The news came just three days after the Irish snagged Texas running back Cam McDaniel.

Golson, an ESPN recruiting four-star player, missed part of the season with an injury but finished with 22 touchdown passes and just one interception, leading Myrtle Beach High School to the South Carolina Class 3A title.

Notre Dame junior quarterback Dayne Crist, whose season ended with a knee injury in the first quarter against Tulsa last month, is expected to return next fall once fully recovered from surgery. Freshman Tommy Rees has filled in nicely and is expected to be the team's No. 1 QB through spring camp.
