Shurna invited to USA basketball camp

Northwestern senior forward John Shurna accepted an invitation to the USA World University Games training camp.

Shurna is one of 22 players invited to the camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., from July 29-Aug. 7. Twelve players will be selected from the camp to play in the World University Games in Shenzhen China from Aug. 13-23.

Shurna has been involved with USA basketball for the last three years. He helped USA to a gold medal and a 9-0 record in the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship and also was a member of the USA Select Team that trained with USA’s National Team in 2010.

Shurna averaged 16.6 points in his junior season. He put his name into the NBA draft following the season, but pulled it out before the deadline.

Purdue coach Matt Painter will be USA’s head coach at the World University games and will be assisted by Tennessee's Cuonzo Martin and Butler's Brad Stevens.
