Northwestern junior quarterback Kain Colter and junior running back Venric Mark are expected to bounce back from injuries and play against Illinois this week, Wildcats coach Pat Fitzgerald said on Monday.
“We both expect Venric and Kain to play,” Fitzgerald said. “We’ll see how they go practice-wise, but we expect both to play this week.”
Colter suffered an undisclosed injury during the third quarter of Saturday’s win over Michigan State and did not return to the field. On the season, he is 83-of-123 passing for 694 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 824 yards and 11 touchdowns on 144 carries.
Mark was injured during overtime of the Michigan game on Nov. 10. Northwestern described Mark’s injury as an upper extremity injury. Mark played the first half against Michigan State, but he was sidelined at halftime.
Mark has rushed for 1,227 yards and 10 touchdowns on 195 carries this season. He’s also returned two punts for touchdowns.
