Each player on Bengals' practice squad opened camp with them

CINCINNATI -- It's been a bit of a status quo summer for the Cincinnati Bengals, who had relatively few surprises Sunday when they set their practice squad.

It's just like Saturday, when there were few surprises about who the Bengals were cutting and moving around to get the initial 53-man roster established.

About the only surprise the Bengals had before putting together the practice squad was the sight of undrafted rookie defensive tackle DeShawn Williams' name still on the list of unclaimed waived players. The shorter-in-stature lineman who some have compared to Geno Atkins was still available. A productive player in the preseason, Williams flew under most teams' radars during the draft process in part because he played on a line in college at Clemson that featured first-round edge rusher Vic Beasley and fifth-rounder Grady Jarrett.

Both Beasley and Jarrett were drafted by the Falcons.

In addition to ultimately signing Williams, the Bengals brought back a group of nine other players to fill out their practice squad. Each of the signings came from players who opened training camp in Cincinnati.

It was rather curious to see both running backs Terrell Watson and James Wilder Jr. stick after it had appeared they both might be competing with one another for one job, either on the practice squad or the back end of the active roster. A second-year player, Wilder spent all of 2014 on the Bengals' practice squad. Like Williams, Watson was an undrafted free agent who signed this past May.

The Bengals also made three other roster moves Sunday. Linebackers Jayson DiManche and Marquis Flowers cleared waivers and reverted onto the Bengals' injured reserve. Cornerback-turned-receiver Onterio McCalebb's Bengals career ended as he was waived with an injury settlement.

Here are the 10 players the Bengals signed to their practice squad (unless otherwise noted, all are rookies):

OG Dan France (Michigan State -- spent 2014 on Cincinnati's practice squad)

CB Troy Hill (Oregon)

OG Trey Hopkins (Texas -- spent 2014 on Cincinnati’s practice squad)

WR Jake Kumerow (Wisconsin-Whitewater)

TE Matt Lengel (Eastern Kentucky)

LB Trevor Roach (Nebraska)

RB Terrell Watson (Azusa Pacific)

QB Keith Wenning (Ball State -- spent 2014 on Baltimore's practice squad)

RB James Wilder Jr. (Florida State -- spent 2014 on Cincinnati's practice squad)

DT DeShawn Williams (Clemson)
