Bengals LB Boley out last practice of week

CINCINNATI -- Already down one linebacker with Rey Maualuga's combination of a concussion and MCL sprain, the Cincinnati Bengals could be without a second Thursday night when they travel to Miami.

Michael Boley, a nine-year veteran who was added to the roster after the season began, missed his second straight workout Tuesday when he was held out due to a hamstring injury. He didn't practice Monday, either. Because of the Thursday game, the Bengals only had two practices this week.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis still contends that all of his players not already deemed "out" are available for the upcoming game. Even though ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported through a source Monday that Maualuga's knee injury would cause him to miss three to four weeks, the linebacker has not yet been declared "out." He still could play, Lewis acknowledged after Tuesday's practice.

That admission came a couple hours after Maualuga, on crutches, hobbled past reporters in the Bengals' locker room and deadpanned: "I've had better days."

Cincinnati doesn't have to make any official designation on Maualuga's status, or any other player's for that matter, until inactives are announced an hour-and-a-half before Thursday's 8 p.m. kickoff. The Bengals also didn't have to make any roster moves that could coincide with Maualuga's injury or any other injuries until 4 p.m. that same day. They did end up making three Tuesday when they officially placed cornerback Leon Hall on injured reserve and signed Cincinnati native and linebacker J.K. Schaffer from the practice squad. Fellow linebacker DeQuin Evans, who rejoined the team Monday from a suspension, also was waived.

Hall went to IR after tearing his Achilles in the Bengals' Week 7 win at Detroit.

In addition to Boley's absence, the Bengals also were without defensive end Wallace Gilberry, receiver Mohamed Sanu and left offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth on Tuesday.
