A weekly examination of the Bengals' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 9 | Last Week: 9 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
Another 40-point effort in a home win was enough for the Cincinnati Bengals to move up two spots in the ESPN.com Power Rankings that were released Tuesday afternoon. They moved from ninth to seventh.
The bump was due in large part to the Bengals' 42-14 blowout win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The win, Cincinnati's 10th, helped clinch the AFC North title and marked the fourth consecutive time the Bengals have scored 40 or more points in a home game. Despite posting 41 on the Colts two weeks ago, though, the Bengals didn't move in that week's Power Rankings. Like they had the two weeks before, they remained at No. 8.
Last week's drop to ninth -- following their 30-20 loss to the Steelers -- was the first movement the Bengals had in the Power Rankings in four weeks. One week after two voters had the Bengals at 11th and 13th on their respective ballots, the six-person Power Rankings panel voted them ninth or better this week. Dan Graziano had the highest vote, placing Cincinnati at No. 6.
