Total breakdown: Browns draft TE Randall Telfer in sixth round

BEREA, Ohio — A few quick thoughts on the Cleveland Browns' sixth-round draft pick.

The pick: Randall Telfer, tight end, USC

My take: The number that jumps out about Telfer: 12 touchdowns in his career. At 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Teller is a big tight end whose forte is blocking. The bad news: Telfer had a long injury history at USC. The good news: He fought through to start every game his final season, when his teammates voted him as the winner of the Chris Carlisle Courage Award. Teller said he learned from former Browns (and USC) tight end Jordan Cameron that it was always important to inspire his teammates. An AFC scout told NFL.com: “You can’t find someone to say a negative word about him in those offices. Plays hurt, tough, leader and a good teammate.”

Medical issues: Telfer’s injury history includes arthroscopic surgery on his knee in 2014 and foot surgery in late February. Sometimes guys who have injury problems in college continue to have them in the pros. That will be something to watch. Said Telfer of the latest issue: “I’m working hard to get back.”
