Browns rookie review: S Jamoris Slaughter

S Jamoris Slaughter

Stats: Spent the season on the practice squad.

2013 role: Point to 2014.

The good: Slaughter should start the 2014 season healthy.

The bad: It's tough to call an injury bad, but Slaughter received no playing time with the Browns after being drafted with an injury. Slaughter tore his Achilles tendon in the third game of his senior season at Notre Dame, but the Browns drafted him anyway in the sixth round. The team promised he would be healthy come training camp, but he never really was. That allowed Josh Aubrey and Tashaun Gipson to move ahead of him. Slaughter was released at the end of camp, but re-signed to the practice squad the same week.

Looking ahead: Slaughter was a good player at Notre Dame when healthy. There was some chatter he could compete for the vacant safety spot alongside T.J. Ward as a rookie, but it didn't happen. If Ward leaves via free agency, another safety spot could be open. If healthy, Slaughter could have a chance. Offseason work and training camp will be very important to him.
