When Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith, Kyrie Irving and company travel the 10 or so miles to Chapel Hill on March 5, 2011 -- and man, that seems like a long time from now -- both teams will be doing something thoroughly new: Playing at night on network television.
Per a Duke press release, CBS has announced that Duke-North Carolina will air in primetime on the network, the first time the rivalry has played out on primetime network TV.
The announcement is less a world-altering development than a quirky curiosity. It's almost baffling that the best rivalry in college hoops -- with apologies to Indiana-Purdue, Georgetown-Syracuse, and other such contenders -- has never been televised in such a manner. It's also interesting that in 2010, as mass media trends more and more toward niche diversification, that in at least some small way college hoops is doing the opposite.
Anyway, mark your calendars, if that's the sort of thing you're into. Or, you know, don't. No peer pressure here, man.
