Calipari recruiting 'the next John Wall'

Rodney Purvis just finished his high school freshman year, and the 6-foot-4 point guard from Raleigh -- unfairly or not -- has already been described by ESPN.com as "John Wall-like."

Not surprisingly, John Calipari is among the many coaches recruiting the braces-wearing blue-chipper Purvis, according to Jerry Tipton of the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Purvis smartly has downplayed the Wall comparison, telling ESPN RISE in March, "Whooooa... Naaaaah... Naaaaah. John? For real? No! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the comparison, but I don't understand. He's just sooo much better than me."

In fact, the two grew up playing together, and the age difference apparently wasn't reason enough for Wall to take it easy on the possible Wall of the future, according to Tipton's report.

Purvis and Wall are friends who have played one-on-one many times.

“Probably over a hundred,” Purvis said before adding with a smile, “and I lost every single time.”
