The vast majority of the recruiting class of 2010 is off the board at this point. Some have been signed and sealed since November, and many incoming freshmen are already enrolled in summer school and playing pick-up with their new teammates.
And then there's the sleeper that signs only weeks before the start of school.
Rhode Island got such a guy this week in Blake Vedder, a 7-foot-3, 230-pounder who will become the tallest player in the program's history.
It would appear Vedder is very much the late bloomer. The Providence Journal reported that he's grown a foot since the start of high school, and he's been scouted late into this summer's evaluation period.
"He combines size and length with tremendous athletic ability," Rhode Island coach Jim Baron said in a statement.
Vedder gives the Rams another tall presence in the middle, as they already have 7-foot senior Will Martell starting at center.
