The Commercial Appeal is reporting that Tennessee signee and top-100 recruit Chris Jones will play instead for former UT assistant coach Steve Forbes at Northwest Florida State College, according to Jones' high school coach.
It was previously believed that new UT coach Cuonzo Martin had scored a victory when the Knoxville News Sentinel reported earlier this month that Jones, ESPNU's No. 13-ranked point guard, no longer wanted a scholarship release after coach Bruce Pearl left.
But things have apparently changed with Jones, who has had academic issues in the past.
"He can concentrate on getting better mentally and physically," Johnson told The Commercial Appeal.
Jones' departure to a junior college would mean that Pearl's fall signing class has fallen apart. Kevin Ware, a top-100 shooting guard, was released from his national letter of intent and has since signed a non-binding grant-in-aid with Central Florida.
Martin has managed to sign guards Josh Richardson and Wes Washpun.
