UCLA's Nelson undergoes eye surgery

UCLA coach Ben Howland joked to reporters that forward Reeves Nelson looked like Rocky Balboa after requiring 15 stitches above his right eye during Thursday's game against Washington State.

It turns out falling on his face after a dunk damaged Nelson's left eye as well, with the freshman needing to undergo laser retinopexy to repair a slight tear in his retina today, the school announced.

Nelson will need to wear protective eyewear for the second time this season. He led the Bruins with 14 points on Saturday while playing with the injury, but will be reevaluated for Thursday's game against Oregon State.
