North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams is undergoing surgery Wednesday to remove a tumor from his kidney, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.
North Carolina sports information director Steve Kirschner confirmed that Williams is having a medical procedure but did not provide specific details or state where the surgery took place.
WRAL.com initially reported that Williams was having the surgery.
Williams, 62, is set to begin his 10th season at North Carolina. He coached the Tar Heels to NCAA championships in 2005 and 2009 and owns a career record of 675-169 in 24 seasons at North Carolina and Kansas.
