X-rays negative for UNC's Paige

Monday night clarification: Asked after the radio show whether Paige's injury is to the shoulder or elbow (see Williams' comments below), a team spokesman said via text that the injury is to Paige's shoulder, and the point guard is listed as day-to-day.

X-rays on North Carolina freshman Marcus Paige on Monday were negative, coach Roy Williams said during his radio show, and he's hoping the point guard will be able to play when UNC faces East Tennessee State on Saturday.

Paige sat out last Saturday's win over UAB after officials said he jammed his left shoulder during Friday's practice. Williams said Paige could shoot Saturday, but wasn't able to pass or dribble. Paige was averaging 7.9 points and 24.7 minutes over his first seven starts.

"It feels better today; they determined he's got inflammation or irritation of the bursa sack in the elbow,'' Williams said. "They took X-rays today; X-rays were negative, so they feel good about their diagnosis of what it is.

"He did have better range of motion today than he did yesterday, and it was better yesterday than it was Saturday. I’m hopeful that by Wednesday he’ll be able to practice and he’ll be able to play this weekend."
