ESPN 150 four-star defensive back Maurice Smith (Sugar Land, Texas/Dulles) is rapidly approaching the 20-offer plateau. On Wednesday, he picked up an offer from Florida, his seventh from an SEC program.
When asked where the offer stood with him, Smith calmly gave a confident response.
“Pretty high,” he said.
Smith, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback, has offers from Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, along with Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and a few other BCS programs.
Recruited by UF tight ends coach Derek Lewis, Smith is ranked the No. 10 cornerback in the country and No. 12 overall out of Texas. With a solid Nike Football Training Camp showing in March, he earned a spot in the 2012 The Opening, a July training and competition event in Beaverton, Ore., that features the nation’s top 150 players.
