HOOVER, Ala. -- Florida coach Will Muschamp is able to do something that a lot of college football coaches can't -- laugh at himself.
Muschamp did a lot of that when he saw the video that College Station, Texas, mayor Nancy Berry did in response to a comment Muschamp made about playing at Texas A&M. In fact, he loved the video (see below), in which he was photoshopped into various places around College Station.
"I thought it was really funny," Muschamp said Wednesday during the SEC's annual media days. "I thought it was great. It’s good that nobody’s so sensitive. Mayor Berry has a great sense of humor."
During a visit to the Polk County (Fla.) Gator Club in the spring, Muschamp was asked about UF's SEC opener at Texas A&M on Sept. 8. Muschamp, who coached at Kyle Field in 2009 while he was Texas' defensive coordinator, said the atmosphere at the former Big 12 school was similar to the SEC. But he also dropped this one-liner: "You ever been to College Station? It'll be the only time you go."
That prompted Berry to make a 90-second video that got posted on her city's website. In it, Berry said she was going to send Muschamp a care package from the Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau that included a bottle of wine from the local Messina Hof Winery.
She followed through.
"We opened it up," Muschamp said. "Had a bunch of stuff in there."
Muschamp said the best part of the video and care package was his wife Carol's reaction.
"I’ve seen her laugh hard several times in our life, and that’s one of the hardest I’ve ever seen her laugh," said.
