ESPN 150 LB Rolin switches to UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Gators continued their hot streak in recruiting by adding a commitment ESPN 150 linebacker Matt Rolin (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) on Sunday afternoon.

The 6-foot-4, 209-pound athlete announced his decision via his Twitter handle @USC_9: "I have officially committed to THE University of #Florida. I will be wearing #9 as I continue to chase my dreams at #Florida #GatorNation."

Rolin later confirmed his commitment to Florida via text message to Recruiting Nation's Kipp Adams.

""UF was a better fit," Rolin said to RecruitingNation's Dave Hooker. "Defensively I fit into their 3-4 and 4-3 better than SC's 4-2-5 and I fell in love with Florida when I took my official. It felt like home to me."

Both of Rolin's parents went to South Carolina, and that made it difficult to decommit.

"It was very hard. But I had to do what's best for me," he said.

The Under Armour All-American also tweeted a message to the South Carolina coaches and fans: "I would like to thank the Carolina coaches an fans for all the support and hope you understand that I prayed about this an it's best for me."

The Gators now have commitments from four four-star linebackers including Rolin, James Hearns (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln), Daniel McMillian (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) and Quinton Powell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Mainland).

Rolin, who had surgery for a torn ACL early last week, is planning to enroll early at Florida and rehab with Florida's training staff.

With Rolin's commitment, the Gators now have 15 commitments that appear in the ESPN 300, including 11 in the ESPN 150. Florida No. 1-ranked class now has 24 commitments.
