Looking back at the class of 2012

NoleNation takes a look back at the class of 2012 and how it made an impact in its first season in Tallahassee.

Mario Edwards Jr.

2012 season recap: Initially began the season with plans to redshirt, but an early season-ending injury to Brandon Jenkins changed everything. With depth an issue, the redshirt came off and Edwards was pressed into duty. He progressed as the season went on and eventually started in the ACC Championship Game after an injury to Cornellius Carradine.

Future forecast: Formerly the nation's No. 1 prospect, Edwards showed glimpses of his talent for Florida State this season. There is every reason to expect him to make a major impact next season on the defensive line.

Eddie Goldman

2012 season recap: Goldman broke into the Seminoles' deep defensive tackle rotation early this season, but saw limited snaps. With such an arsenal to choose from, it was hard to earn many snaps, but the coaching staff was pleased with his performance when he did.

Future forecast: Goldman looks every bit of his five-star rating and should play a much bigger role next season with the departure of a few seniors.

Jameis Winston

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt behind more seasoned quarterbacks EJ Manuel, Clint Trickett and Jacob Coker.

Future forecast: Jimbo Fisher had very bright things to say about the nation's No. 1 dual-threat passer from last year's class. He needs to continue to develop to get into next season's quarterback battle.

Chris Casher

2012 season recap: Florida State elected to take off Casher's redshirt early in the season, but he sustained an injury and will end up taking one anyway.

Future forecast: Casher will be given an extra year to bulk up and improve his all-around game and should be a major contributor at defensive end going forward.

Ronald Darby

2012 season recap: Following Greg Reid's dismissal prior to the season, Darby was forced into immediate playing time. He coped well enough and got tons of meaningful reps in big situations that should help his development.

Future forecast: Darby looked as good as advertised with a quick burst to the football. He should be able to fight for a starting spot at cornerback in 2013.

Mario Pender

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt after undergoing surgery in preseason.

Future forecast: Once healthy, Pender will have to show he's able to stick out in a very crowded backfield, but he has the ability to do so.

Marvin Bracy

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt.

Future forecast: Given his unique speed, Bracy will likely be counted on in the return game and in certain offensive packages to utilize his strengths.

Justin Shanks

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt.

Future forecast: Figures to be a force on the interior defensive line that will help plug holes and stop the run.

Ukeme Eligwe

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt.

Future forecast: A very versatile player that should be able to play outside or inside, Eligwe already looks the part of a FBS linebacker.

P.J. Williams

2012 season recap: Williams was featured often on special teams coverage units this year. He got some reps at safety or corner in mop-up duty as well.

Future forecast: With this season's experience now in hand, Williams will hope to push for significant playing time in 2013. This spring could be instrumental in figuring out his base position, too.

Sean Maguire

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt behind Manuel, Trickett and Coker at quarterback.

Future forecast: Will have a chance to impress this spring, and could make a move up from the bottom of the depth chart next year with a great effort.

Reggie Northrup

2012 season recap: Appeared in mop-up duty in the middle of Florida State's defense this season. Showed his tackling instincts from high school, racking up totals in limited opportunities.

Future forecast: Proving to be very instinctive, Northrup has a definite future at middle linebacker for the Seminoles. If he continues to find the football this spring, he could be in the running for a starting position.

Christo Kourtzidis

2012 season recap: Caught one pass in a small amount of playing time. Featured as a blocker during the majority of his snaps, as he was behind Nick O'Leary and Kevin Haplea on the depth chart.

Future forecast: Has all the tools to do what Fisher's offense needs a physical tight end to do. Should not have a problem making an impact down the road.

Colin Blake

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt.

Future forecast: Blake will need a good spring coming up to show what he can do to the new defensive coordinator. Has the physical tools, but will benefit from more reps and added strength from the weight room.

Roberto Aguayo

2012 season recap: Took a redshirt.

Future forecast: In line to be the next placekicker at Florida State with Dustin Hopkins' departure.

Cason Beatty

2012 season recap: Struggled at times during his first full season of college football, averaging 38.4 yards per kick, but did handle every single punt attempt for the Seminoles.

Future forecast: In line to retain his starting punting duties next season.

Daniel Glauser

2012 season recap: Played sparingly in an understudy role to juco transfer Menelik Watson.

Future forecast: Due to a mix up in his transcripts, Glauser's eligibility will have expired after this season.

Menelik Watson

2012 season recap: Steadily improved as he made the right tackle position his own. Did battle through plenty of setbacks, but was impressive given his brief existence in the world of football.

Future forecast: Watson may have set up for a nice paycheck after the 2013 season. He's caught the eye of scouts and is firmly on the radar for NFL talent hunters. Should be a dominant player for FSU in just two years.
