Athlete Darron Lee (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) made a verbal commitment to Ohio State. Lee confirmed his decision in a text message to ESPN on Tuesday afternoon.
Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Duke, Illinois, Kent State, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Purdue and Toledo also offered the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder.
Lee performed well in a camp at Ohio State over the weekend, and hinted that an offer from the hometown Buckeyes would be hard to turn down. New Albany is roughly 20 miles from the OSU campus.
“There’s a chance. There’s a pretty good chance,” Lee said Saturday when asked if he'd commit on the spot if he received an offer. “… I think I've done everything I could in my power to receive an offer.”
Lee projects as either a safety or linebacker in college. He showed off his explosiveness on the combine circuit, as he ran an electronic 4.68 40-yard dash and had a 34.6-inch vertical leap.
The Buckeyes now have 13 commitments for the Class of 2013.
