Huhn making best of rough senior season

SCHERTZ, Texas -- This was supposed to be the game Erik Huhn would cherish for a while.

The homecoming game and senior night both fell on Nov. 9. His No. 3-ranked Cibolo (Texas) Steele team was 9-0 and a win over San Antonio Southwest away from hitting the state playoffs as strong as ever.

Huhn shows up to this game in a white polo and khaki shorts with a black brace on his left knee. This, of course, was never the plan.

He was robbed of his senior season after only two plays, tearing his ACL as he came down with an interception in the opener against San Antonio Madison. Now the Texas safety commit is learning how to be a leader without playing.

For a good three weeks after the injury, Huhn was depressed. He still went to practices and games, but he didn’t say much.

The normally carefree and relaxed defensive back couldn’t get over it. He needed several long talks with Steele coach Mike Jinks to start finding perspective.
