Ed Orgeron will add veteran defensive line coach Pete Jenkins to his staff at USC, the Trojans announced on Tuesday.
There was an open spot on the Trojans staff after Lane Kiffin was fired and Orgeron was moved to the interim head coach role. The Trojans currently have six assistant coaches working the offensive side of the ball and only three on defense, including Orgeron, so the move to add another coach to assist Orgeron on the D-line makes a lot of sense.
"Pete is a good friend of mine and an excellent defensive line coach,” Orgeron said. “He knows the 3-4, there's no better coach for this defense. I felt I could use a hand to help me out and he's a very, very overqualified guy."
The Trojans are getting a coach with 45 years of experience at the NFL and college level as Jenkins had stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, LSU, Auburn and others. During his career, Jenkins developed 17 All-SEC defensive linemen.
Jenkins had been retired since 2009.
