Dan Bailey calm, cool as always

IRVING, Texas -- Dan Bailey was not aware he became the first Dallas Cowboys kicker with two field goals of 50 or more yards in the same game since Eddie Murray on Dec. 12, 1993, with his connections last week against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bailey made kicks from 51 and 53 yards, the last coming with 3:50 to play to cut the Chiefs’ lead to a point.

“It was definitely rare I guess,” Bailey said. “If they come up, they come up and it’s my job to try and go out there and put points on the board the best I can.”

Bailey has had only one other game with multiple 50-plus yard tries, making from 50 and missing from 53 against Arizona in 2011.

Facing fourth-and-10, coach Jason Garrett said the decision to kick was easy to make but he would have had a more difficult time if the team had had a more manageable distance to get a first down.

But having Bailey in his back pocket is a calming influence to the coach.

“His approach is really, really good in terms of how he goes about it every single day to get himself ready to be his best,” said head coach Jason Garrett. “Just a really good football player. We have a lot of confidence in him and we’ll put him in those situations to help us win ballgames. We’ve done it before, and we’ll keep doing it.”
