TCU loses to No. 23 Tech, but shows well

Second-year TCU coach Jim Christian has the Horned Frogs (5-4) headed in the right direction. TCU lost Tuesday night at home to Tech, 80-70, unable to hold onto a 14-point first-half lead, but they never gave up.

TCU forward Zvonko Buljan, a preseason Mountain West Conference first-team selection, showed why. The 6-foot-9 big man from Croatia hit for a career-high and game-high 24 points, which could be a sign of trouble for undersized Tech once Big 12 action starts next month.

Tech rode a 27-7 run beginning late in the first half to take the lead for the first time with 16:09 to play. TCU managed to rally for a 55-54 lead, but Tech's trio of John Roberson (21 points), Mike Singletary (17) and David Tairu (14) were too strong.

Tech was solid from the free throw line late in the game to stretch the lead as the Frogs resorted to fouling.
