SMU's record-setting WR honored by SI

SMU senior receiver Emmanuel Sanders re-wrote the Mustang record book over his career, including this season's 91 receptions for 1,215 yards, an average 101.1 yards a game.

On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated tabbed Sanders, who will graduate Saturday before leaving for the Hawaii Bowl, Honorable Mention All-American.

A first-team All-Conference USA performer, Sanders ranks as SMU's all-time leader in career catches (278), TD catches (33) and yards (3,667). also leads all active NCAA players in career touchdown catches and yardage, and is fifth in catches among current FBS student-athletes. He holds SMU records for career 100-yard-receiving games with 15 and season 100-yard games with six (2008). He is the first player in SMU history to record four 600-yard receiving seasons - no other receiver has three.

Want more? How about this: Sanders started returning punts this season and in the opener, he returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown against Stephen F. Austin, the first for SMU since 2003. He ranks fifth in the nation in punt return average at 15.4 yards, making him a first-team All-Conference-USA selection at punt returner.
