Peeking ahead to Week 5 in the Big 12

A pretty fun week of football across the Big 12. Baylor and Kansas State had entertaining wins, and TCU and West Virginia got tests that were a little tougher than folks expected. Even Kansas got locked in a seesaw game.

Here's what we can look forward to in Week 5 in the Big 12, which should be a whole lot more fun.

  • The QB Watch in Stillwater was on. Nobody really cared last week, because there was no game on Saturday and Wes Lunt's knee was immobilized and he wasn't practicing. This week? Lunt was listed as a co-starter with J.W. Walsh on Oklahoma State's depth chart, but who know's what that means? Don't look for many hints from Mike Gundy this week, but this could be an interesting exercise in protecting information within the Oklahoma State program. OSU will release a status update on Friday, but there's no telling what information could come out before then.

  • Finally. Welcome to the Big 12, West Virginia. Baylor comes to town to kick off league play in style for the Mountaineers, who have looked really good through three weeks. Baylor's been shaky at times, but this game has the look of a track meet with an over/under in the triple digits. Will that be the case? These are the two fastest offenses in the Big 12.

  • Don't you dare overlook a really good game in Ames. Iowa State and Texas Tech are the Big 12's Nos. 8 and 9 teams, but both might be better than anybody realize. Iowa State has the wins against decent opponents. Texas Tech has the style points and blowouts against not very good opposition. This one's a coin flip, but Iowa State has dominated the series of late. The Big 12's other game of undefeated teams will be a fun one.

  • TCU's trip down I-30 to face SMU could have been the Big 12 game of the week in a few weeks already this season, but as the scene across college football looks pretty dreary, it's quietly a set of pretty good games in the Big 12. Somehow, this is the week's worst matchup, and it's still pretty good. TCU blew a game in Fort Worth in overtime to the Mustangs last year, but could earn some revenge against an SMU team that's looked pretty poor so far this season.

  • Kansas State, Oklahoma and Kansas are all off this week.
