This Johnny Manziel guy can really play, huh?
"Johnny Football" has been making a mockery of opposing defenses for the last three weeks, but saved his best outing for Arkansas over the weekend. Texas A&M's redshirt freshman quarterback went off on the Hogs, both passing and throwing, in the Aggies' 58-10 beat down in College Station, Texas.
Manziel set an SEC and Texas A&M record with 557 total offensive yards against Arkansas. He set a school record with 453 passing yards on 29-of-38 passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions, and also rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries and another score. All three of his passing touchdowns went to different recipients.
On the season, Manziel is fourth in the SEC with 1,094 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also leads all quarterbacks with 366 rushing yards and six scores on the ground.
Texas A&M (3-1) at Ole Miss (3-2), 6 p.m. CT, ESPNU: Both of these offenses know how to move and score points. This should be a real fun one to watch in Oxford, but both defensive coordinators could be pulling their hair out by the third quarter. Both teams are averaging more than 200 rushing yards a game, so line play will be critical. Ole Miss has to find a way to slow quarterback Johnny Manziel, or his hot run will continue. The first team to 40 points might win this game.
GLOWING EMBERS -- Manziel: Texas A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury said it best following Manziel’s record-breaking performance in the Aggies’ 58-10 romp over Arkansas. “The sky is the limit,” Kingsbury said. Manziel set an SEC record for total offense against the Hogs with 557 yards. He also set a Texas A&M record with 453 passing yards. Already a splendid athlete, Manziel is becoming a better quarterback every time he takes the field. In his last three games, the redshirt freshman has passed for 921 yards, 10 touchdowns and no interceptions, and he’s also rushed for 306 yards with five more touchdowns. He’s sixth nationally with 1,460 total yards, and at this rate, could make a run at the SEC record of 4,327 yards, which was set by Cam Newton in 2010.
7. Texas A&M (3-1; LW: 8): The Aggies just keep pounding away on offense. Johnny Manziel and his crew walked all over Arkansas' defense, racking up 716 yards of offense and 58 points in their blowout win against the reeling Razorbacks. We know that Texas A&M can score points and generate a lot of yards, but we saw a little too much bend out of A&M's defense against the Hogs, as they surrendered 515 yards to Arkansas.
