Sources: UT's Harsin headed to Ark. State

Texas might have a job to fill very soon, and the Big 12 has its second offensive coordinator this week headed to his first head-coaching job.

From our news story:

Texas co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin will be named Arkansas State's new head coach, sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's Ian Fitzsimmons.

Harsin takes over for Gus Malzahn, who's leaving Arkansas State for Auburn after one season. Malzahn led the Red Wolves to a 9-3 record and a Sun Belt Conference championship.

The 35-year-old Harsin was interviewed for the Red Wolves' position on Tuesday and will be officially introduced on Wednesday, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Probably a good move on Harsin's part. He's more than likely ready to be a head coach, and Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn have proven that you can win in Jonesboro, just like many other schools in the Sun Belt Conference.

I'd argue that another season or so at Texas might have put Harsin in the mix for some even bigger jobs, but this should be a stepping stone to some very good openings in the future if Harsin succeeds as the head Red Wolf.
