TCU's famed co-offensive coordinators, Doug Meacham and Sonny Cumbie, don't speak publicly very often over the course of the season. So you have to listen closely when they do.
At the Horned Frogs' media day on Tuesday, Meacham offered an interesting nugget: He made the call last year on Cumbie's job title. And he was happy to share the job, reports Chuck Carlton of The Dallas Morning News.
"The fact is he was the co-offensive coordinator at [Texas] Tech,” Meacham said. “You want a guy to come in and work with you and you want to take a title away from him? Titles mean nothing to me. I just want to win. And I knew he was the right guy for that job.”
That no-ego approach is a big reason why TCU's offensive transformation in 2014 went so smoothly. It's hard to beat that kind of trust, which should prove vital as the Horned Frogs adjust and improve in Year 2 of the Air Raid attack. Check out Carlton's piece for more on how this OC duo first met, and where they intend to take the offense in 2015.
“I told Meach that the goal is to be as good as they can be,” coach Gary Patterson said.
