UT-Arlington announced Tuesday that Jim Baker has been named the school's athletics director.
Baker had served as Texas' associate athletic director for events and operations since 1991. He will be UTA's sixth AD when he begins his duties Feb. 1, replacing Pete Carlon.
UTA participates in 14 Division I sports and will join the WAC on July 1. The school is scheduled to open the $78 million College Park Center in February.
"We will look to Jim to advance the UT-Arlington program to even higher levels of regional and national competition." UTA president James D. Spaniolo said in a statement.
Baker earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. He began his career in athletics working at Ohio State and served in various positions at Florida from 1982 until he joined the staff at UT in 1991.
"We are in a great recruiting place and a great city with a remarkable partnership with the University," Baker said.
