IRVING, Texas -- Jerry Jones basically admitted during Wade Phillips' introductory press conference in the winter of 2007 that he was leaning toward hiring ex-Cowboys offensive coordinator Norv Turner.
With Turner's Chargers coming to town this weekend, that decision is a hot topic again. Jerry opted for a defensive-minded head coach in large part because he thought Jason Garrett was ready to run an offense.
"I wanted to go defense and felt like that with Jason on board we had a lot of what we could get with the development of Romo and the offensive philosophy that Norv represents," Jones said on KRLD-FM. "Generally speaking, certainly Jason has a lot of Norv’s background and his philosophies, so I thought that we could get that, get the development of the quarterback, plus have really great defensive input with Wade Phillips."
