Romo trying to qualify for HP Byron Nelson

McKINNEY, Texas -- Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is even par through 14 holes at Stonebridge Country Club as he's trying to qualify for next week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Romo was short on his 14-foot birdie putt on No. 14. His tee shot on the par-3 No. 15 landed on the green.

It's a windy day here, but the skies are sunny.

"I try to hit about five golf tourneys in the offseason," Romo told ESPN's Page 2 on Monday. "I love to compete. I love trying to get better in just about anything, whether it's dropping back [to pass] and footwork or making jump shots. Football takes up our mornings, but I'm an active guy and I don't have any kids at home to take care of. Your arm only has so many throws in it in a given day. A dream offseason day for me is just figuring something new out."
