Wade Phillips deals with Dez Bryant injury

SAN ANTONIO -- The day was coming to a close when Dez Bryant suffered an ankle injury. It's just another injury the Cowboys have to deal with, and the man in charge of things on the field, Wade Phillips, has to deal with it.

"We're checking further," Phillips said of Bryant's injury.

Here's some highlights of a very short Phillips press briefing:

* Phillips said the injuries to second-round pick Sean Lee and Bryant, the first-round pick, were a setback "a little bit" but he didn't think it was the end of the world.

"You don't like to see them out," he said. "If it happens then you got to deal with it."

Phillips has praised Lee's ability to pick up the defense and play both inside linebacker spots. Bryant is playing just the X receiver, outside on the line of scrimmage and, "he's actually doing real well as far as his assignments is concerned."

Bryant had tweaked an ankle earlier this week that needed to get retaped. Phillips said it wasn't bothering him on Friday.

Cornerback Orlando Scandrick, who was covering Bryant on the play, was involved on two plays last year with Roy Williams in which the receiver injured an ankle and a shoulder during training camp.

"He made that play on the ball," Phillips said of Scandrick. "It was behind the guy."

*Martellus Bennett made his training camp debut on Friday and didn't look too limited as he did a good job in making cuts and running down field.

"It's good to see him back," Phillips said.

*Phillips said he liked what he saw with the red zone offense in practice on Friday and the team will do more of it on Saturday.
