Cowboys fall to 1-3 after loss to Titans

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Cowboys fell to 1-3 on the season with a difficult 34-27 loss to the Tennesse Titans on Sunday at Cowboys Stadium.

Here are the highlights of what happened:

Felix Jones gets his touches: In the buildup of the game with the Titans, Jason Garrett and Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones were questioned why Felix Jones wasn't getting more touches. Sunday afternoon, Jones carried 15 times for 109 yards with no touchdowns.

Turnovers result in points for the Titans: There were two second-half turnovers by the Cowboys resulting in touchdowns for the Titans. The first turnover, Tony Romo threw a pass into the end zone that slipped off the hands of Martellus Bennett and was picked off by Michael Griffin in the end zone. The turnover resulted in a 40-yard field goal by Rob Bironas with :28 seconds to play in the third quarter.

The second turnover also involved Bennett. Romo threw a pass to Bennett that was tipped at the line of scrimmage. Cornerback Alterraun Verner jumped the route and picked off the pass. Chris Johnson's 1-yard score gave the Titans a 27-20 lead.

Miles Austin with big day: Austin continues to impress with his play. He finished with nine catches for 166 yards and a fantastic touchdown catch where he took the ball away from a defender and scored on a 69-yard touchdown. Roy E. Williams, it should be noted, finished with six catches for 87 yards and one touchdown.

Leonard Davis gets benched for Montrae Holland: The Cowboys sat Davis in the second quarter for Holland. At that point, Tony Romo had been sacked five times, some of the sacks a result of Davis' inability to contain pass rushers. Holland did a fine job blocking, but he left the game late in the third quarter with a black eye and a cut on the bridge of his nose. After the game, Davis said he wasn't surprised that he got benched.

Concern about David Buehler again: The Cowboys' kicker recorded two touchbacks on the day, but with a chance break a 17-17 tie, he was wide right on a 44-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Buehler tied the game, 20-20, with a 26-yarder with 10:19 to play in the fourth quarter. Buehler is 1-4 on game-tying and go-ahead field goals this season.

Cowboys run defense struggles: It's hard to say the run defense struggled when it faced one of the best running backs in the game. Chris Johnson carried 19 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns. It was the second consecutive game where the Cowboys have given up at least 100 yards to a running back. Dallas hadn't allowed a 100 yard rusher in 19 straight games prior to Week 3's effort by Houston's Arian Foster, who carried 17 times for 106 yards. Johnson's second touchdown came with 3:28 left to give the Titans a 34-27 edge.
